Fourier Restriction Estimates to Mixed Homogeneous Surfaces

Let a, b be real numbers such that 2 ≤ a < b, and let φ : R → R a mixed homogeneous function. We consider polynomial functions φ and also functions of the type φ (x1, x2) = A |x1| + B |x2| . Let Σ = {(x, φ (x)) : x ∈ B} with the Lebesgue induced measure. For f ∈ S ( R ) and x ∈ B, let (Rf) (x, φ (x)) = f̂ (x, φ (x)) , where f̂ denotes the usual Fourier transform. For a large class of functions φ ...

Slicing Surfaces and Fourier Restriction Conjecture

We deal with the restriction phenomenon for the Fourier transform. We prove that each of the restriction conjectures for the sphere, the paraboloid, the elliptic hyperboloid in R implies that for the cone in R. We also prove a new restriction estimate for any surface in R locally isometric to the plane and of finite type.

Dual Rectangles

This article concerns a notion of duality between rectangles. A proof is given that only finitely many integral sided pairs of dual rectangles exist. Then a geometrical group law is shown to hold on the set of all rational self-dual rectangles. Finally, the arithmetic of a cubic surface is used to construct new pairs of rational dual rectangles from old, a technique inspired by the theory of el...

Measurable Rectangles

We give an example of a measurable set E ⊆ R such that the set E ′ = {(x, y) : x + y ∈ E} is not in the σ-algebra generated by the rectangles with measurable sides. We also prove a stronger result that there exists an analytic (Σ11) set E such that E ′ is not in the σ-algebra generated by rectangles whose horizontal side is measurable and vertical side is arbitrary. The same results are true wh...

Geometric Convolutions and Fourier Restriction beyond Curves and Hypersurfaces

I will present recent results relating to two problems in Fourier analysis, L-improving properties of convolutions with singular measures and the Fourier restriction problem, both of which deal with the analysis of operators associated to submanifolds of Euclidean space. In both cases the theory is much more welldeveloped for curves and hypersurfaces than it is for submanifolds of intermediate ...
